Why have full mouth dental implants?

Missing teeth can cause more than just cosmetic concerns. They can make biting and chewing difficult, impacting your diet and nutrition, and can make speaking clearly challenging. Over time, gaps can lead to shifting of surrounding teeth and misalignment. If the gap is visible when you smile or laugh, it can affect your confidence.

At our Cardiff practice, our skilled dental surgeons use the latest technology and techniques to provide high quality dental implants.

Whether you'd benefit from single implants to replace a few missing teeth or need full mouth implants, we offer durable, fixed solutions to restore both function and appearance.

What is a full mouth dental implant?

When you’ve lost many teeth or an entire arch, full mouth dental implants can restore your smile while protecting your gums and jawbone. If you lack sufficient jawbone for traditional implants and aren’t a candidate for bone grafting, full arch implants might be the perfect solution for you.

Typically, four to eight implants are placed per row to provide strong support. These implants fuse with the jawbone and act as new tooth roots. After healing, your dentist will attach replacement teeth, such as a dental bridge or custom dentures, to give you a complete, natural looking smile.

Your dental implant journey

1

Come and see us

Your first consultation with Dr. Koochek or Dr. Gracias at Thornhill Dental Centre is free of charge. During this visit, they will conduct a clinical exam and discuss your treatment options with you. If you decide to proceed, they will take scans of your mouth and create a personalised treatment plan.

2

A full assessment

You'll then return for a more comprehensive clinical exam, which costs £200, along with X-rays at your second appointment before starting your dental implant treatment.

3

Implant placement

Small titanium posts are surgically placed into your jawbone to serve as the roots for your new teeth. For full mouth implants, usually four to six implants are positioned in the upper or lower jaw. This careful placement ensures that your implants get the best support from your bone and evenly distribute chewing forces.

4

Time to heal

After the implants are in place, you'll go through a healing phase called osseointegration. During this time, the implants will bond with your bone, creating a strong and stable base for your new teeth.

5

Your smile is restored

Once healing is complete, your dentist will attach abutments to the implants. These connectors hold your custom-made overdenture, which matches the shape, size, and colour of your natural teeth. The final result is a fully functional set of teeth that look and feel like your own, allowing you to eat, smile, and enjoy life with confidence.
